There are actually two pieces of good news. First, the maximum amount for Pell Grants will probably be raised, assisting students with the highest financial need.
Second, the relatively small number of colleges and universities who may have favored lenders for the wrong reasons are being forced to adopt more ethical standards.
The bad news comes from South Carolina, where some legislators want to follow Utah’s lead and allow licensed gun owners to carry their weapons (concealed) on campus. As any responsible university official will quickly tell you, the idea that more guns on campuses will make them safer is laughable. The likely result of weapons on campus, however, is likely to be anything but funny.
